Independent editorial-planning case study
June 2027 Integrated Editorial Calendar
A proposed month of coral-reef science communication, stewardship and nature storytelling coordinated with BleachWatch’s 2027 recreational-diver recruitment campaign.
Hypothetical portfolio exercise; not commissioned, published, implemented or endorsed by Florida DEP. Proposed dates, staff roles and outcomes do not describe actual DEP operations.
01 / Why June?
This single-month example illustrates how recurring conservation communications can support a focused seasonal campaign without reducing every science article to a recruitment message. June offers a useful planning setting for reef recreation, public education and monitoring, but is not a prediction of 2027 thermal stress or bleaching.
Ongoing CRCP communications
Explain reef importance, translate research and monitoring, promote appropriate stewardship and tell compelling nature stories for relevant public audiences.
BleachWatch recruitment
Help eligible Southeast Florida reef divers understand the verified route into observer training, and ask potential dive-operator intermediaries to consider sharing that opportunity. The proposed campaign runs May 1–July 15, 2027.
Editorial principle: Public-facing education has value independently of recruitment. Appropriate cross-links and adaptations connect audiences to deeper science or training when relevant. Any activation of already-trained observers is a separate conditional response, not an automatic June campaign.
02 / Eight working editorial anchors
The subjects and formats are approved choices for the illustrative program. The five marked topics are selected for the initial employer-facing content portfolio, but selection does not mean the writing is finished.

04 / Production & coordinated distribution
The approach uses researched website pieces and verified campaign information as the foundation for selected social posts, a curated newsletter and direct operator outreach. Adaptations reuse the underlying work without counting the same research several times.
Research and draft
Start with audience purpose, source checking, content briefs and a defensible message. Confirm rights to imagery and proper credit for the BleachWatch observation dashboard.
Review before publication
Under the hypothetical staffing model, a coordinator drafts; relevant program/science reviewers check technical claims, and a designated final approver reviews publication. This is not a claim about actual DEP staffing.
Adapt and evaluate
Publish long-form material where appropriate, then tailor social/email excerpts. Record distribution and observed response only if real evidence is available; do not simulate achieved outcomes as facts.
Feasibility scenario — still provisional
The approved hypothetical role model uses a communications coordinator averaging 20 hours per week. A separate proposed budget estimates 88 June hours (22 weekdays), 78 planned hours and 10 hours of reserve, with an additional 12–18 hours of advance work in May. The monitoring/GIS week is especially tight. These are estimates for critique, not proven capacity, actual agency staffing or a finalized delivery commitment.
05 / Planned portfolio deliverables
The minimum employer-facing portfolio requires five polished content assets, supported by this editorial-planning example and the two communications strategies. The articles and outreach materials below are not marked complete merely because they appear in the calendar.
- Coral bleaching and seasonal heat stress Science explainer · to produce
- Reading the BleachWatch GIS map GIS interpretation · to produce
- Reef-safe boating Stewardship guide · to produce
- BleachWatch recruitment landing page Recruitment copy · draft to finalize
- Dive-operator outreach email Stakeholder communications · draft to finalize
Other June subjects remain illustrative editorial entries and potential future work. No claimed DEP publication, training completion, secured partnership or result is implied.
