Channels & implementation
A proposed communications pathway connecting diver-facing content, dive-industry outreach, earned media, approvals, and timing.
Channel strategy recorded • Events, partners, and production still to verifyDistribution approach
Program-owned and direct communications
A reliable central information pathway should explain the opportunity, show verified training details, and direct eligible divers toward enrollment. Program-owned channels provide a consistent source; actual publication authority is hypothetical.
Dive-community channels
Participating dive operators, instructors and related networks could provide trusted access to active local divers. Real cooperation, channel selection and placement require individual confirmation.
Earned-media approach
- Hyperlocal pre-event coverage. A suitable local outlet could report on a confirmed training event and practical enrollment opportunity before the event.
- Early-session reporting. Journalists could be invited to observe an early training session, subject to real access, host agreement, permissions and useful visual opportunities.
- Regional awareness. A separate regional angle may emphasize reef conditions and multiple confirmed training routes across the four-county area.
- Newsworthiness test. A generic “new partnership” story is weak if similar operator relationships and coverage already exist. The earlier hypothetical press-release angle needs review before final publication.
Training sites, dates, cooperating operators, registration links, interview access, quote approvals, press coverage and performance outcomes are not confirmed in this mock case.
Proposed workflow
Before launch
Confirm program facts, training and reporting routes, editorial/review needs, potential partners, content briefs and practical timing.
Recruitment window
Coordinate relevant education and recruitment materials, targeted outreach and referral routes. May 1–July 15, 2027 is a provisional planning window.
Conditional activation
If elevated thermal stress warrants, provide accurate guidance to already-trained observers through verified channels, potentially July–September 2027.
Existing asset backlog
AST-0001 · Press release — Briefed
A proposed campaign-launch release has a headline, news logic and planning work; it is not a reviewed final release. The “new partnership” angle warrants reconsideration.
AST-0002 · Recruitment landing page — Concept
A proposed diver-facing campaign information page with a clear, verified training pathway.
AST-0003 · Dive-business email — Draft
A working stakeholder outreach draft exists; final employer-facing review remains outstanding.
AST-0004 · Diver recruitment email — Concept
A potential direct recruitment email/newsletter; audience access and distribution are not established.
These are internal asset statuses, not public finished work samples. Once polished, each sample will appear in the shared Work Samples library and link back to the appropriate campaign decisions.
Working sources and review status
Traceable working material
BleachWatch workbook: 4 Delivery Plan, 7 Portfolio Package (media and content decisions), 8 Campaign Decision Index; CRCP shared 14 Asset Index; Airtable prototype Assets records AST-0001–0004. These are independent practice decisions and research notes, not DEP-approved arrangements or actual 2027 program results. The campaign strategy is substantively complete for this portfolio exercise; the remaining work is final presentation polish and production of selected communications assets.
Selected working notes
Selected original BleachWatch workbook decisions and drafts, not final employer-facing copy. The complete source, assumptions and asset backlog remain in the planning workbook.
Campaign delivery stages
- Recruitment — planning
Deploy hybrid recruitment through owned/direct and partner-led channels
- Thermal-stress activation
Deploy existing-observer reminder messaging when thermal stress warrants
- Recruitment — campaign launch
Plan event-driven earned media for proposed 2027 BleachWatch trainings; prepare pre-event local outreach and broader regional outreach after schedules/partners are grounded
- Preparation
Develop and roll out approved, interlinked content for the four priority diver information needs; pre-seed co-created or ready-made content with partner dive operators; coordinate flexible partner posting windows, personalized reshares, scientific review, comment support and revisions.
- Preparation
Prepare and check the minimum viable interconnected information foundation; give partners a ready-made kit and proposed posting windows in advance; launch education and recruitment together, then distribute follow-up content steadily and revise based on questions/performance
- Preparation
Define integrated measurement system with internal program input; establish training/referral questions, partner/platform tracking, asset–placement–metric records, weekly syntheses and leadership access to governed dashboard.
- Afterward
Review observer reporting patterns separately for newly trained and previously trained observers; analyze authorized opportunity/barrier questionnaire and frame conclusions without attributing ecological impact to communications.
Writing samples and prospective assets
- Approved Lesson 2 asset: hypothetical 2027 campaign-launch press release
Mock launch announcement: ahead of the 2027 summer thermal-stress season, Florida DEP launches a coordinated BleachWatch recruitment effort with Southeast Florida dive-industry partners to recruit recreational divers into coral monitoring. Recent/past thermal stress supplies urgency; the new partnership and concrete public role supply the news. All partner names, commitments and quotes must be clearly hypothetical/placeholders unless independently confirmed. LESSON 3 REVIEW FLAG (deferred): Pre-existing BleachWatch training partnerships and prior media coverage weaken a generic ‘new partnership’ news hook. Reconsider the release later against specific training events and a substantive, credible multi-county opportunity. Mock events, partners and quotes remain hypothetical; working-draft status unchanged.
- Approved Lesson 2 press-release headline
Florida DEP and dive operators partner to recruit divers to monitor vulnerable reefs
- Approved Lesson 2 asset: dive-business outreach email
Partner-facing outreach asking dive shops/instructors/charters to help connect customers and students with BleachWatch training; conservation/science contribution leads, with customer-experience, stewardship identity and partner recognition as secondary benefits.
- Potential future asset: recreational-diver recruitment newsletter/email
Direct recruitment email/newsletter supporting the landing page and training CTA.
- Potential future asset: dive-partner one-pager/toolkit
Potential integrated toolkit: ready-to-share, fact-checked training/science copy; current referral links, FAQs and response/escalation facts; suggested but mutually agreed posting cadence/windows; invitation to co-create; partner review/approval of uses of their business or staff; options to personalize reshares of program posts; distinct DEP/SEAFAN scientific/brand approvals and permissions. Assess against Lesson 4/5 overlap after Advanced.
Earned-media approach
- LESSON 3 — earned media role
Media is a supporting recruitment channel, not the primary channel. Success is qualified campaign-referred divers completing BleachWatch observer training, not merely press coverage.
- Local news hook
Potential seasonal heat stress/bleaching risk + a local dive business taking concrete action to help divers train to monitor reef conditions. Monitoring does not prevent bleaching. Do not claim a specific future bleaching event without forecasting evidence.
- Timing — advance coverage first
First priority: secure local coverage before training events to drive registrations to specific sessions. Required event logistics and registration link must be verified before actual promotion; all 2027 events currently hypothetical.
- Hyperlocal media approach
Target community publications and local broadcasters around individual training sites and operator partners; center the local host, specific training and local registration opportunity.
- Regional media approach
Approach wider Southeast Florida outlets for seasonal reef-monitoring awareness, role of dive operators and the collection of training options spanning Martin, Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Complement rather than duplicate local pitches.
Content and partner distribution
- Social distribution role and channel hierarchy
Prioritize dive operators and credible dive-community accounts as amplification partners; DEP/SEAFAN owned channels support direct recruitment. General conservation partners are lower priority absent evidence they reach active Southeast Florida reef divers. Social augments rather than replaces the wider recruitment mix.
- Initial content balance and CTAs
Initial broadly even split between direct recruitment and science-informed educational content, reinforced with instructor/observer videos. All formats carry relevant, prominent training calls-to-action without making every post a repetitive sales appeal; adapt messaging/format by partner and platform.
- Audience information needs — four clusters
Identify and validate: (1) coral vulnerability, risks, what is at stake, and how observations contribute to research/monitoring; (2) training topics, duration, format, cost, eligibility, registration and any ongoing obligations; (3) what incorporating observations into an ordinary recreational dive is actually like; (4) visual examples, confidence in reporting and where observers can obtain support. Avoid substituting introductory examples for actual training or implying diagnosis certainty.
- Modular interconnected content architecture
Each item must stand alone for its primary purpose while linking contextually to the other information categories and a suitable primary CTA. Divers can enter through education, personal experience, practical logistics or direct recruitment; do not force a linear funnel or overload every asset with everything.
