CRCP context & evidence
The published conservation program context, public communications examples, and limits of what an external review can establish.
What the published material establishes
- CRCP remit. Public materials describe research, monitoring, management and conservation work along Southeast Florida’s reef region.
- Three relevant outreach goals. The 2020–2025 plan includes 2.1 education and awareness, 2.2 partnerships, and 2.3 citizen science; these are standing organizational priorities, not newly invented targets.
- Existing communications. Public sources include an Awareness and Appreciation focus area, Reef Resilience information, the Reef Ambassador Initiative, a 2024 Reef Review newsletter, and the BleachWatch program.
- Bounded analysis. The portfolio examines how a communicator could support an established program. It does not claim to have identified a DEP staffing gap or performance failure.
Internal workloads, editorial calendars, approvals, reach, audience response, budgets, and performance data are not available through this public review. Their absence is not proof that they do not exist.
Examples reviewed
Education & stewardship
Existing outreach and the Reef Ambassador Initiative inform what a new communications asset should complement rather than duplicate.

How the audit informs strategy
From observation to communications decisions
Published program aims and examples help identify potential audience needs and content opportunities. The next step is to select specific audience responses, verify assumptions, and link decisions to the relevant organizational goal.
Working evidence and next review
Internal references: CRCP workbook tabs 1 Situation Audit, Public Comms Audit, and 6 Sources Assumptions. This material is being organized for the portfolio and is not a claim of an approved DEP strategy or observed communications result. The strategic foundation is substantively complete for this independent exercise. Further work focuses on polished employer-facing presentation and selected content assets.
Selected working notes
These are selected original planning entries, not polished portfolio writing. The full records, source details and qualifiers remain in the planning workbook.
Organizational situation
- Documented organizational goals
DEP CRCP 2020–2025 Strategic Plan, Education and Outreach: 2.1 education/awareness; 2.2 partnerships; 2.3 citizen science. These are standing organizational objectives, not yet newly authored communications SMART objectives.
- Situation / portfolio rationale
The case demonstrates how a communications coordinator could support an established reef program’s ongoing research, education, partner and stewardship activities while coordinating with a separate focused BleachWatch campaign. No documented shortcoming in DEP communications strategy is asserted.
- Public communications baseline
A limited sample of public materials is available; publicly visible items do not establish complete posting volume, reach, audience comprehension, conversion or current internal performance. No organization-wide communications baseline is claimed.
- Working framing (not alleged problem)
How can an organizational communications role translate DEP’s established priorities into coherent recurring public and stakeholder communications? BleachWatch additionally has a focused, already-developed diver recruitment opportunity.
- What this review cannot establish
No evidence that DEP lacks a strategy, is performing communications poorly, has insufficient staff, requires a rebrand, has approved a new campaign, or needs equal publishing frequency for each program objective.
